ThumbsPlus Review
ThumbsPlus is an image and graphics organizer and searcher, which creates thumbnail views of your media files (photographs, vector, audio, video, font and metafile). It also contains image processing and editing functions.
The core of the software is an ODBC database that keeps track of both the physical directories and files on your disks, as well as the thumbnail images (and their location). This makes it possible to view a directory's contents without having to open each file. It also allows you to access information about the files, including user-defined fields for annotating and searching, and logical galleries in which you can group related images from different directories for easy access.
You can use the main window to move, copy, delete and rename files and folders, both within the ThumbsPlus database and back and forth with Windows Explorer. It is also possible to edit the database, and create batch processes that can apply multiple changes to many files. ThumbsPlus supports the printing of images and catalogs, including a powerful print layout engine that gives you extensive control over thumbnail placement on pages and over the number of thumbnails per page, as well as over headers and footers, image annotations and so on. It can even print catalogs of directories and their subdirectories with or without the containing folder names.
ThumbsPlus can store millions of thumbnails in external files, or can be configured to use a Microsoft Access (JET) or SQLite3 database in both the Professional and Network editions. The latter option is ideal for shared network installations, since it allows multiple users to access and work with the same data over a network.
